Thought for Discussion - CAD copy of Amberola Reproducer

Post by tarheeltinkerer »

This is a thought that has been wiggling around in my head. I am not an engineer, nor an expert on CAD and autolathes. All the same, I can't help but wonder about the possibilities of taking the Edison amberola reproducer and having one milled out of billet aluminum, swapping the stylus over. If you could make them and sell them for under $200, would people be interested? Sure would beat the pot metal ones out there.

I suspect that you could make the Diamond B fairly easily on a CNC machine out of one piece of stock. But the Diamond A and C would be much more difficult due to the narrow, 90 degree angled output tube on them. Even making these out of more than one piece would take some doing. A brass casting would be the better way, but you'd probably have the cost of an original in them by the time you got it all tooled up.
