It is a marvelous reference work. Enjoy!

epigramophone wrote:The late George Frow's "Edison Cylinder Phonograph Companion" made the Atlantic crossing in it's USPS padded envelope and arrived in perfect condition, so UK buyers should be able to use this option with confidence. The seller had very sensibly wrapped the book in cardboard before inserting it into the envelope, just to make sure.
Although it is 55 years since I acquired my first gramophone, I came late to cylinder machines and have only just got round to adding the definitive book on the subject to my collection. My wife has now hidden it, so the next time I see it will be on Christmas morning.
Well this Christmas you really have something to look forward to then. Although it's sometimes mentioned that the book has some inacuracies, it's a wonderful book. Somewhere I have the old paper back edition from 1970 or so and also the first hard cover edition and the second, final edition. The second edition is has much more data and pictures but the picture quality is better in the first edition for some reason. Enjoy!

There is more!
I am also being given "The EMG Story" for Christmas by my brother-in law.
This is another book which is getting hard to find nowadays, and an EMG owning friend has already warned me that once I have read the book I will want the machine. We shall see........

That sound interesting! I've just ordered one from Waterstones.com for £15.00, there was a second hand copy being offered by a hopeful seller on Amazon for £120.00. Finding the £15.00 version took me three or four extra clicks.epigramophone wrote:There is more!

Oh dear - I mis-read your post - I read once I have read the book I will not want the machine.
We shall see.....
Apart from actually buying one, it's where to put it, we've got too much stuff in a small house already!
I could sell the grandfather clock I suppose or give it to my son.....

Re: Postage costs from the US to the UK
Waterstones show the book as available to order in two to three weeks, but I wonder where they hope to order it from?
The original publisher is out of stock (I know because I enquired) and as far as I am aware there are no plans for a reprint.
I had the CLPGS Bookshop's last remaining copy, which cost under £20 including postage. I should have gone there in the first place.
If Waterstones are able to fulfil your order, perhaps you could post this information on the forum as there is clearly still a demand for the book.

Re: Postage costs from the US to the UK
I got a copy about six months ago from Foyles, but it took a lot of searching to find one. So many websites indicate "in stock" but it generally isn't. Very hard to find!epigramophone wrote:There is more!

Wanting the machine, good grief, yes indeed - having acquired an Expert Junior in April, tracked down the book and thoroughly immersed myself in this rarified subject (thanks in considerable part to some wonderful new friends), I've now managed to buy an EMG Xb - just a few days ago, in fact! Even harder to find (especially "in the wild"; both machines were still in their original family ownership, both within 50 miles of here). Will try to post a new thread soon!

OK, I'll temper my excitement, I clicked buy, paid my money and got a receipt. Perhaps it's just as well.
Edited for a horrible spelling error.
