I am researching into Excelsior cylinders, a British brand sold 1903-5. The first reference seems to be when one E Seligmann formed the Excelsior Phonograph Co in October 1903. In February 1904 he seems to have joined a W Mitchell to produce 'Mitchell's Excelsior' cylinders, sold from 'Excelsior Phono Stores' in Finsbury Pavement and Busby Place, London. These were still advertised in August 1905 but then the trail dries up.
In June 1905 Excelsior cylinders were advertised by the New Falcon Works of Battersea, these being available for the next year or so. The box is diffferent to the earlier Mitchell product.
The qustion is this: Did New Falcon buy out Excelsior, or did the earlier brand fade away, the name being taken up by New Falcon?
Answers on a postcard, please...
Thanks
Keith
