Hearing Double??

Post by Mr Grumpy »

Hi all,

I'm looking for the magic trick that will fix my Edison model H reproducer as it seems to have some issues with it's primary function which is reproducing sound.

When I had an issue with poor quality reproduction and an echo with my Diamond 'C' reproducer, I followed
an existing thread and lubed up the hinge block screw and the double voices disappeared.
Now I have garbled and echoing sound coming from my Model H and I'm hoping there's some trick to this one as well.
Should I lube the hinge-a-ma-bopper thingy on this reproducer?
If there isn't a special trick to it, can you at least tell me the proper name for the hinge-a-ma-bopper? (is it a hinge block?)

Thanks
Vince

Chances are you have a worn sapphire. If the hinge block and everything else is free and you're hearing an echo, the stylus is worn.

I am sorry to report you need to change the sapphire Why you may ask. well My edison H for my Edison D home and my standard I use the H repoducer for bolth I can not afford another any who I am getting off the subject. Your haveing the same exact trouble that I am haveing, When my sapphire went bad it was talking doubble also. You may be able to rotate the sapphire and bring a new surface into use. To do this, I apply heat to the needle bar with a soldering iron, directly above the sapphire, and using plastic tweezers I turn the sapphire 180 degrees.

Thanks folks

Looks like I'll be buying a new stylus. I tried rotating it and just removed it instead and
I'm not too sure how to secure it back in place. on closer inspection it looks like just half a sapphire -
as if a large chunk of it is missing?

Thanks again for all your help!
