Cecilian Phonograph

I recently bought a Cecilian phonograph, but I do not know much about it. I have never owned a phonograph before and was hoping I could get some general information about proper care and use of a phonograph. If you could also provide any information about my phonograph, like around what time it was made, that would be great. It is a table-top, hand-crank, and has a metal rod on the side that goes in and out to control volume (unfortunately that feature does not work well). It is also made of oak. Sorry, but I can't figure out how to post a picture.

Cecilian was produced and sold though Montgomery Ward.

Cecilian machines are usually from around WWI into the mid 20's, but since yours has an oak case I'd say it was more likely made in the 'teens. They are not very common - Sears Roebuck had the largest share of the mail order catalog market. The ones I've seen have been good quality but have no unusual features. If you can post lictures I'd like to see them.
