Bookends from Europe

Post by pappde »

I just finished cleaning up my latest arrivals, and could not resist to show them up.
They represent the two ends of the Berliner improved gramophone era in Europe. The first one is of the Gramophone Company as Berliner's gramophone was introduced in the UK. Second type of brake with black painted tinplate horn. It is of the Michael Bennett-Levy Early Technology collection. The second comes from Normandy. It is a French Gramophone Company new #3, the last iteration of the improved gramophone line.

Note the unusual spring cover on the French machine. It is a heavy nickel plated iron casting about 1.5x of the original improved gramophone spring cover I guess the french preferred it over the D shaped cover.
