Question on Victor wood horn decals

Post by flashpanblue »

Hello,
On Gregg Cline's decal web site he offers three different Victor logo decals for wood horns. One has a blue background and the other two have green backgrounds. Can anyone tell me which decals were used on what machines. I have a Vic MS with wood horn. The previous owner refinish the horn and put on a new decal. Unfortunately I think he used the wrong decal. He used the red, black and white one which I beleive is only for the metal horns( see pictures). I also have a Vic III with a Don Gfell wood horn that I would like to put a decal on, which one should I use??
thanks
Pete

AFAIK, this decal was for Victor metal horns "only". It's also on the wrong side of this wood horn.... :o ????.

Not so fast.... LOL

I have an original Mahogany horn on a Vic 6 and it has the black decal. No doubt about it as far as being original either.

(early)???

I guess they had some wild & crazy guys working the assembly line back in the day.

Apparently there is no absolute for this one. My advice is: whichever one you choose, make sure it is as close to the original as you can get.

I have definitely seen black backgrounds on Mahogany horns. I am confident they were earlier horns, two of which (one that I owned) were the very early ones with the square edge rims. Not so sure I ever saw an original black background decal on an oak horn.Others may have input on Oak horn decals. Of which I have plenty but never w black.

Blizz, does your horn have a square rim? Which is often associated with Vic6 not Vic VI as the model designation. No I do not know transition dates and ser #s for each..... :D

You got something there. Yes mine has the squared off rim but the machine has the

Vic VI Serial No. 7395 plate.
