Silvertone in beautiful oak

This one belonged to my great-grandmother. I am trying to get it up and running (it was missing the motor/board so that is a replacement in the picture. Mentally preparing myself to fix that thin veneered grill soon (I have the ripped original cloth but can't find the right replacement).

One of their popular styles- simple but well proportioned. Silvertone grilles do have a habit of coming apart, it is somewhat unusual to find one of the table models fully intact.

The grill is 3-ply the top being oak veneer. I think being so thin the glue between the layers gives up and any movement shatters the thin pieces.

Sears used the flimsiest grille cloth I've seen - very much like gauze or cheesecloth. I guess they had to cut corners somewhere.

yeah looking for something similar I actually looked at dying some medium cheescloth as it has about the right number of threads per inch.

I don't know too much about the Silvertone pictured below. I'm pretty new to talking machines and this was my first phonograph. It somewhat resembles the Duchess model in the ad posted earlier in this thread. On the back is a brass tag stamped with "F 486" and directly underneath a small cast brass plate reading "P.F.C." Any idea whether these have any significance?

I don't think Pooley had anything to do with Silvertone manufacture - they seem to have been built by Conley Camera Co. in Minnesota with some components like motors brought in. Conley was almost owned by Sears - they bought most of their output.

EDIT: I stand corrected - That DOES stand for Pooley Furniture Company. They didn't make all of the Silvertone cabinets but they built yours!

As far as grill cloths go , I keep my eyes open in the racks of women's scarves in the dollar stores..you can find something very close there , at the right price
