A VV-XIV followed me home...Dear can I keep it????
An early Victor VV-XIV has been aquired over the week end..It's S/N 22366B , a Berliner Gramophone unit , sold by the "Bell Piano Warerooms" in Toronto...It's got the round dial speed control , a forward crank location , full width doors , no automatic brake...the overall condition is good...no veneer issues...some time in it's past a hasp type lock was attached to the record storage doors and the screw holes need to be filled...Almost every screw under the lid has been replaced , with the wrong stuff...The tone arm had the gooseneck facing the wrong way , The exibition reproducer was in pieces , It had a rubber tone arm mount different from any that I've seen before, with a nickel plated retainer that sandwiches the rubber between it and the back of the reproducer....Is this a common form that I've never seen?...The "Bell Piano Wareroom" decal is on the back of the lid....Never seen one there before

"followed me home... Dear, can I keep it????" Now I know what to say the next time I bring one home.
I've never seen a dealer decal on the back side. I wonder if it came in as a trade. It doesn't seem like you see too many XIVs. It looks like a nice machine. If you're asking us if you can keep it, you're just asking another afflicted, addled, demented, (you pick the adjective) collector. Jerry

Nice Machine. I Believe that cabinet style with the tone doors the same width as the lower doors was only available for a short time.
Why do we need signatures when we are on a first avatar basis?

I wish an Oak Victrola XIV like that would follow me home as it would motivate me to sell my X and my 80 and replace with one premium unit. I have had several near encounters on craigslist but they have followed others home. I like the picture you have with an original Victor Box (crate really) in the background. Congratulations on your new item.
