Bill, I'd suggest trying to find the correct oxidised reproducer that it would have come with. That would really class it up and sounds almost as good as an Edisonic plus easier on your records.Bill Cahill wrote:Actually, I think it's a Dance reproducer. I originally put it on temporarily, but, it plays so nicely I've decided to leave it on.
I think it came out pretty well. I have a little more cleanning to do, and, have to get the repro grill, but, other than that, I'm calling it a total success.
Don't kinow why you couldn't see the picture. It shows fairly clearly for me, and, others said they could see it fine.
Might be your computer is missing a codec which is not allowing video, but, is allowing sound. Been there, done that......

Actually, this reproducer is oxydized. It's not Gold plated.
I think it is dressed up nicely.

A Dance reproducer would have a flange with three screws holding the neck to the body. From what I can see, I think it's probably an Edisonic....

Yes, it's a gun metal finish Edisonic. The original issue would have been oxidized as pictured here.http://phonographcompany.com/index.php? ... &detail=11Lucius1958 wrote:A Dance reproducer would have a flange with three screws holding the neck to the body. Re: Edison A150 cabinet
Now I'm confused. I was told that the Edisonc had a lighter weight. Why would the dance reproducer have a flange? And, the needle is spring loaded, which I was told the Dance reproducer was.. I used to know a collector by the name of Charles Greggory in Michigan. He had nearly every diamond disc record made, and, a large machine collection. In fact, he made a book on records. Wish I could get a copy of that...
He is the one that said it was a dance reproducer. I'd like to find out more on the DD reproduceer line...
I remember that the earliest ones had the needle bar mounted on a block that was held on the weight with four screws. But, I haven't seen any reproducer like that in over thirty years. I suspect they are very rare.
I was able to mount the boards in the cabinet yesterday after doing alot of filing on one end. Unfortunately, one of them cracked, and, broke installing it. It broke at its' weakest point over the front bedplate pin block. Phooey.
These boards weren't a perfect match to this cabinet. I looked at the remains of the old one, and, it only had one set of holes fro the bracket. Apparently, it was one of the earliest ones.
I have another question.
I tried putting in my amberola 3 grill to see if it would fit. It won't. It's too high for the openning. What light can you shed on this for me?? Will I have to have a special one made, or, are they different heights??
Thanks, guys.......

Re: Edison A150 cabinet
Where would I find an early one that I could afford?? Anyone want to trade?
I think I'll look at my reproducer on my Wm and, Mary. I want to see what type of finnish it has.

Re: Edison A150 cabinet
Bill,
The Edisonic is simply a refined dance reproducer. Both are spring loaded. Both have the extra large weight. The Edisonic sounds a little better than the dance and is certainly less troublesome. Here's some original literature describing both and showing them in profile.

Re: Edison A150 cabinet
Just looked at the original reproducer off the Wm. and, Mary. It is also the gun metal finnish. In fact, all parts are.
My turntable on the A150 is also gun metal, apparently. Well, I may never get this machine right. Shoot......
The standard reproducer sounds softer, and, not as good high frequencies.
Yet, vol. is pretty good, and, it doesn't rattle. Maybe it needs new gaskets......

Re: Edison A150 cabinet
Thank you VERY much for the information! Shows what I know.. Nothing!
Now, my questions. Whre could I actually get the correct reproducer?
What type of value does the Edisonic have? I know the machines are rare. Am I wrong to keep that reproduceer on the machine? Do they eat records?
This is very interesting.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Edison A150 cabinet
They turn up from time to time. I bought one from a member here some time back. I've also seen them on eBAY. They are not outrageously priced. They are rare but also of limited value because they are only correct for the A150. No other machine was issued with an oxidised reproducer.Bill Cahill wrote:Where would I find an early one that I could afford?? Anyone want to trade?

Regarding your question on the grill not fitting, mine are interchangeable between the III and the 150. As George pointed out earlier, the variation in yours is probably due to different cabinet manufacturer, just as some come with casters and some not. Some of the early III cabinets also came with a flaired end to the leg instead of the straight leg.
