... so I just assumed the other setting was for diamond disks. Am I wrong?

I too bought a machine like yours and no, it will not play Edisons. I upgraded the tone-arm to an Ultona and it plays Edisons wonderfully.

I had never heard an Ultona play an Edison disc before. Sounds very good. Love the vocal treatment in Dardanella too!

Yes awesome machines these Brunswicks I have the Table Model playing a nice edison DD with the Ultona sound box check it out on my YouTube Channel below
cheers. Yes place repoducer in freezer these guys know a lot of things it will work you may also check ebay surgical tube to replace old gasket material my friend rebuilt mine works awesome.
