Nippers- Pepper darker than salt

I picked up a pair of salt & pepper Nippers and the pepper dog is darker. It is something I had never seen. Have you? Jerry Blais

It may just be discoloured, cigarettes can sometimes have this sort of effect when smoked near it, if its not that then i have no idea

I'd say the pepper pot has been stored in damp conditions, with the pepper still in it and the colour has leached into the porcelain, which, on the inside would be unglazed, and therefore porous. Note how much darker the colour has gone where there are glaze cracks in the base.
