Wood reproducer?

I'm noodling around on the UK Ebay site, and found this wood reproducer/soundbox, (bezel, diaphragm, needle bar...)

Yet another novelty item? Somebody's home woodworking project? I would post a picture directly, but I'm on my tablet...

i gues its a early version of the pugh soundbox normaly the diagraph would be wood too but this could have been replaced

That's pretty interesting looking from a curiosity perspective... I do have to wonder what the sound quality would be like, however, with a wood soundbox (especially with a wood diaphragm)?

Didn't some of the Sonora's have wooden tone arm- reproducers? I've never heard one, would be interesting.

Didn't some of the Sonora's have wooden tone arm- reproducers? I've never heard one, would be interesting.

Some of the Sonora tone arms were wood (Invincible, Grand, and Elite models, as I recall), but the reproducers were traditional metal and mica sound boxes.

I think it shows that sound reproduction is not limited to only a few materials.
These days they would all be plastic.
The wood might be better at certain frequencies.
No one ever thinks of making a Violin out of plastic or metal.
Wood has certain properties nothing else does.
