I'm noodling around on the UK Ebay site, and found this wood reproducer/soundbox, (bezel, diaphragm, needle bar...)
Yet another novelty item? Somebody's home woodworking project? I would post a picture directly, but I'm on my tablet...

That's pretty interesting looking from a curiosity perspective... I do have to wonder what the sound quality would be like, however, with a wood soundbox (especially with a wood diaphragm)?mrphonograph wrote:i gues its a early version of the pugh soundbox normaly the diagraph would be wood too but this could have been replacedpugh machines where all wood except the motor and some soundbox parts

Didn't some of the Sonora's have wooden tone arm- reproducers? I've never heard one, would be interesting.Tinkerbell wrote:That's pretty interesting looking from a curiosity perspective... Re: Wood reproducer?
Some of the Sonora tone arms were wood (Invincible, Grand, and Elite models, as I recall), but the reproducers were traditional metal and mica sound boxes.Norfolkguy wrote:Didn't some of the Sonora's have wooden tone arm- reproducers? Re: Wood reproducer?
I think it shows that sound reproduction is not limited to only a few materials.
These days they would all be plastic.
The wood might be better at certain frequencies.
No one ever thinks of making a Violin out of plastic or metal.
Wood has certain properties nothing else does.
