Over the years I've found there is much more than cars and car parts at an antique car swap meet. At the Portland antique car swap today I bought one bike and a few phono items including:
Amberol #28171 Marie Rappold singing "Agnus Dei"
US Everlasting #1538 "The Lass From County Mayo"
Blue Amberol #5369 "The Fate of Talmage Osborne" by E.Stoneman
Amberol #23024 "My Young Man Is Not The Chocolate Soldier" by B. Williams
Has anyone else seen the box by Sargent Cylinder Recordings? The carton says "Sargent cylinder records are manufactured of the highest grade wax... Sargent Cylinder records are sold exclusively through the Sargent Laboratory at Box 2556, Kay West Florida 33040. Sargent 1970, 305-294-3989". There were several of the boxes, which are covered Edison wax Amberol boxes. The applied Sargent label leads you to believe they recorded and manufactured the cylinders. I looked in all the cartons and each contained an Edison record. Any comments or ideas?
I also bought an original front grill for an Amberola 30. Anyone need it? Jerry

Looks like I'll be going there tomorrow. Hope I can find the dealer with the cylinders!

The 'Sargent' must have been some collector selling old cylinders - and fairly recent, too: note that it's got a zip code and a 10 digit phone number on the label.....

I tried to look in each Sargent cylinder box and all seemed to be Edison cylinders. It was a busy place and I could have missed something. Maybe he was also selling empty boxes. I started collecting in the early seventies and have no recollection of Sargent records but collecting was more of a regional hobby back then. Jerry

Re: Phono stuff at the car swap meet
I have bought several portable gramophones at car swap meets, or autojumbles as we call them in the UK.
The best bargains are often found where one least expects to see them. A few years ago I bought a green cased HMV101 from a china stall at an antiques fair. It had been dragged out of a shed that very morning. When I asked the price, I thought the stallholder said £50, but I misheard her. It was £15, and all it needed was a good clean.

I recall seeing ads for the Sargent cylinders in collector publications - Allen Koenigsberg would be the man to ask about this.

Interesting Jerry - I bought a 1960's era Schwinn green Pea-Picker krate bike at a car show back in 2009. Ya never know right?
