New to the forum (new owner of 1922 VV-100)

Just wanted to say hi to everyone out there. My wife and I purchased a pristine Victor Victrola VV-100 at an estate sale in San Francisco last weekend, and this seems to be the place to hang out and learn more about it.
I'm very excited by it so far. We have a very limited number of discs and I've ordered some soft tone needles to start. Everything on it works well and the sound is amazing.

Welcome to this band of phonocentric fellows {and ladies}....There is much here to learn , but don't be discouraged . I've been collecting for 30 years , but only got my first outside horn 3 years ago...The VV-100 is a fine place to start , and it looks like yours is a winner...If you've got questions , just ask...nothing is too basic or simple not to get a friendly honest reply.....I've only been here for a few months , and never have felt less than very welcomed

That's a beautiful machine! Congratulations!
If the reproducer hasn't been rebuilt, you'll be even happier with it when you have a new set of gaskets installed. If you're handy it's not very difficult. Perhaps another member can recommend the best reference for rebuilding it yourself, or repair contacts if you wish to send it out. Welcome to the forum. I suggest that you buy the Compleat Talking Machine by Eric Reiss. You can buy it on ebay or Amazon. It is full of information about wind up phonographs. Good luck with your first machine. It is a real winner.

Congrats on your VV-100. According to Baumbach's "Look for the Dog" and "Victor Data Book," the 100 is (one of) the successor(s) to the VV-XI, and as the owner of an XI model G I know you'll be very happy with yours. Along with the other posters, I also endorse a rebuild of the sound box, if you feel that is necessary. Doing so should make all the difference between shrill, scratchy, distorted reproduction, and good clean sound. Your box is probably a no. 2 mounted on the so-called "fat tone arm" which VTMCo. began to supply from about late 1917 forward, so it should sound terrific. Enjoy your instrument to the full!

Be warned it is addictive though. Somehow those antique phonographs tend to multiply in your home like coat hangers or rabbits.
