Request: Wayne Show Report

Post by Garret »

Could someone please provide a report and/or photos from the latest Wayne show? I wanted to go, but some unforeseen circumstances changed that.

Thanks!

I just returned home from the Wayne show. I thought the crowd was large, and noticed many younger collectors (age approx. 30 or younger). Even though I promised myself I'd only pick up some items I had already bought, and do some other little tasks, I could help buying a couple of other things. I thought there was a good variety of machines and ephemera - - in short, a pretty good show. Wish I'd had more to spend!

As a dealer I would say the show had a large crowd from the beginning at 8 am up to about 2 pm. Many dealers said sales were down from the last show. Machine sales seemed to be way off. Smaller items seemed to sell well. Here are a few pictures from the show.

I understand the Multiphone was just over $150,000. Thanks for the photos. It looked like a great sale. Jerry Blais

Looks like a great selection of horn machines but not too many internal horn machines. Jerry

The asking price on the Multiphone was $153,000 according to the owner of it. He also said this is the third one he sold in the last two years. Also, you are right, there were not many interncan machines.

Where were all the people in the pictures? There were times I could barely move through the aisles, but I did leave at 1:00.

Carolyn DeVecka (who was taking admission and stamping hands) remarked to me that it was an unusually busy show. I can't speak to machine sales, but I saw lots of people carrying records.

I saw a somewhat ratty Type C Graphophone (needed a refinish - - had been stripped but the decal had been saved) missing reproducer and crank, sell for $150. The mechanism and motor looked good - - this would have made a great project. A really clean and unusually nice Type C Graphophone (all original and including reproducer and recorder in original boxes, instruction pasted to the inside surface of the door, PLUS the rare metal chip tray) sold for around $1200. I like Type Cs (although I no longer own one) so I noticed these.

There was an Amberola 75 in mahogany for $395. I didn't look closely, but if all was well with it, that seems pretty reasonable.

The best deal I know of was an Amberola A1 with 300 cylinders that sold on Saturday in the parking lot for, get this, $2100.00.

Some more images from the Wayne show, all shot with my 1937 Zeiss Super Ikonta A and Fuji Neopan 100 film.
