Two resons: Antique radios belong at antique radio shows, unless they are a radio/phono combination like an Edison R4. Too much space wasted on old tube radios by far. This is only my personal opinion as I also have a few vintage radios in my collection but they belong at their own show. #2: A FEW PEOPLE DID NOT EVEN KNOW THE PRICE OF ITEMS ON THEIR TABLE! No kidding. I asked one very nice lady about some German Edison cylinders. She said her husband was "floating around" and to stop back - which I did four times over the course of two hours! I did not buy them - NO PRICE! And I must admit something else - for the first time ever at Wayne there were a few rude people. Cranky and just not nice.

I got there far too late, as usual, by around 12 or 12:30 sunday... had an hour, if that, before people started packing... by 2, it seemed almost half the show had gone. I know I need to get there earlier and that some people have a long drive, but if it's advertised as running until 3 p.m., there really shouldn't be several empty tables before that.

otherwise, I had no complaints... aside from noticing one dealer leaving around 2:30/3, walking out the front door carrying two smaller edison cylinder players (standards or firesides) BY THEIR CARRYING HANDLES... I watched waiting for at least one to snap.

but I do agree regarding the unposted prices and about the radios (there did seem to be a lot, and they probably outnumbered the floor model phonographs).

I enjoyed the show and meeting several forum members, but I agree with others that machines either seemed more expensive than at the last few shows, or those that I was interested in were. I would also prefer to see price tags at least at large items like machines, horns, etc. That should not be too much asked considering their price. Interestingly, prices on records, cylinders, and ephemera usually were clearly marked, only machines were often unlabeled.

I was really glad I got there relatively early, because as Brian said, many vendors started packing after lunch. This has gotten worse in the last 2 years, but never as bad as this time. You better not be a church goer and a collector, half the show will be empty by the time you arrive.

Brought home a nice record cabinet from estott, some parts, and stacks of records. Still a good show.

Yea I really dislike waiting around someone's table for 20 minutes because the owner is off somewhere and the attendant has no clue about price. I'm even more unhappy to learn after 20 minutes that the item I was seriously considering is priced sky high and my time was wasted.

If I was looking for an antique radio I would go to an antique radio show. If I was looking for old coins I would go to a coin show. What's next at Wane - depression glass? TOO MANY unrelated to talking machine stuff this time :x

We attended right at 8 am, having driven in the night before. Eight is too early as my wife and I spent a good ½ hour watching the vendors set up. But we were very glad to be there early and have my serious shopping done before 10 am. We left by noon and it was so packed that we could not move in the isles.

I did not find any real price deals but I was not into haggling as we were there looking for hard to find parts and I scored a couple horns (usually hard to ship to Canada from USA).

I must agree that I spend too much time waiting to talk to vendors even just to find out their starting prices.

Everyone I talked to agreed the best deals and networking occurred in the parking lot the day before.

My personal opinion, Wayne has become more of a record show more than a machine show. Just and observation over the last 10 years.
Check with your dealer for the latest Edison Records!

Hey Brian, you caught me. I must confess that I forgot my dolly so I had to lug all my machines in and out. And yes I did a stupid thing of carrying some of them by the handles. Next time I will pack the dolly first. I sure am glad all the cases were strong and up to the task. Here I am at my tables (red shirt) not holding any machines, just making a sale to my friend Charles.

Roger, it IS amazing! Come on over to the USA for a visit--we're willing to forgive and forget the War of 1812. As for the minor gripes about the show, pricing, etc. I'll just say that it's NIRVANA compared to the old (mid-1990s) phonograph shows. No show promoter chasing people out of the pre-show parking lot sale, no 6AM opening rush, it's far more civilized. The machine prices seemed very reasonable, certainly compared with prices of ten or fifteen years ago. I hauled home three large crates of records, about half acquired in the parking lot sale, the balance from show day. Best of all, I had a wonderful opportunity to meet up with many old friends in the hobby. Strangely, I only noticed one additional radio-selling vendor at this show (besides Bruce from Waves and a fellow who sells mainly cathedral sets)--and this new vendor had one of THE great early radio rarities for sale, an Atwater Kent Model 5. I'd only seen an AK5 in pictures, never in the flesh (and never at various radio meets over the years.)

The show was fun. Most machines were overpriced, but you get to see everything. Also, you never think about how big one machine is compared to the next until you see a whole room full of them. Operas are indeed HUGE. I was trying to sell my Victor III in the parking lot, and collectors were nice, took a look at it, answered my questions about it being all original (it is) and even tried to help me sell it at the last hour. It was a fun time. If you can make it go, nothings perfect, but at least it happens at all.
