Hi, my name is Stephen and I am a new user to this forum. I am 19 and have been collecting phonographs since I was 12. I have an Edison home model B and I installed 2/4 minute gearing which is noisy when the 4 minute gears are engaged. I took the gearing apart and found that the brass bushing that the small pinion shaft rotates in is worn out. If you grab the gear with tweasers you can visibly see the gear wiggle around. How would you fix this? Maybe take the pulley to a clock repair shop and have the bushing replaced. I play this machine almost every day and would really like to get rid of the noise.
Thank you for your help,
Stephen

Stephen,
Please post pictures of what your talking about. I don't remember any brass bushing being involved with a 2/4 minute attachment on a Home B.
Thanks!
Steve

I will try to post a picture but, I have very poor computer skills. Inside the belt pulley is a very small brass bushing in which the small pinion gear shaft rotates.
Thanks,
Stephen

Stephen,
This is a photo of the usual after-market gearing for a Home B. The cog within the pulley has no bushing. Does it look as though yours has been altered/repaired at some time?.
Regards,
Alistair.

I acutally have two of these pulleys and both have the brass bushing. If you flip the pulley over and look behind the smaller pinion you will see a bushing sticking out of the pulley. Of course both of mine are worn out.
Thanks,
Stephen

Re: Edison home 2/4 minute gearing noise
Again, please post pictures. I have never seen any type brass material on the pulleys. The only thing behind the small gear is a metal spacer and a shaft which connects the gears on both sides of the pulley together. The gears are pressed on the shaft sandwiching the spacer.
