Round speed control on Victor IV Question.

I freed the knob on my control an it turns very easy now, maybe too easy. Is there a stop to keep it from turning 360 degrees. When you turn it all the way around the lever jumps off the high point with a "snap" to the low point of the cam and causes the part with the leather too move further away from the governor disc and make the motor go faster and not be able to slow it down again. That means, every time this happens, you have to loosen the governor yoke and readjust it back to position.

That doesn't happen on my XI. When the follower arm reaches the top of the cam, it drops down to the lowest point of the cut-out, but the governor leather does not disengage. Maybe the IV is different, or is something else going on here? Wish I could help.

It is not a matter of disengagement. It is a matter of the yoke part backing away from the governor plate. The yoke moves back and forth with the position of the follower arm but now it is too far back to slow down the machine to proper speed. I can readjust its position, but I don't want to have to do it every time I accidently turn the speed control all the way around. How free should it turn? Originally I could barely turn it, I put a drop of oil on its shaft and now I can easily turn it with thumb and index finger. Maybe it is just a matter of figuring a way to cushion the follower arm from from snapping down so hard.
I did take it apart and it was easy to do. All it needed was a tiny drop of oil in the knob shaft and it freed right up. Most of the control os made of brass except for the adjusting screw and the spring. When I get further along on my project I will calibrate it.
