Need some minor VV-IV parts - and a question

Post by 52089 »

Anybody have spare door knobs and screws for a VV-IV? I'm sure Ron Sitko has repros, but I'd rather have originals if possible.

I could also use the back bracket pin and set screw, which are both present but quite rusted.

I also need 1 (or 3 matched) governor weight and spring. The machine has 2 round weights and 1 square weight, so someome clearly played with it in the past. It runs OK though.

My question - the spring is seriously dry and recoils noisily. Is it possible to lubricate the spring without opening the barrel? I know some machines have a removeable plug for this purpose but I wasn't sure about this one. I know these barrels can be a bear to open and I can't remove and replace the spring myself...

Thanks in advance.

Hi:

I don't have any of the parts for this machine anymore. The Victrola VV-IV does not have a lubrication plug, it is a small motor, I have worked on many of them both earlier and later models. Not hard to work on or lubricate, if you do not want to remove the spring and can live with the dirty grease thats in there, just pack in some black grease into the center coils after a few wind ups and wind downs your mainspring should be lubricated enough.

If you cant find parts from our fellow members, they can be purchased from Ron Sitko, George Vollema at Great Lakes Phonographs, he has so many parts just about anything you would want. I live close to Michigan so its convenient. Also, can try Wyatts in Calfornia and APSCO in New York. It seems that Dennis and Patti up at APSCO do not have as many parts anymore, maybe thats just me.

I will be bringing some parts IVs and VIs to the Union phonograph show in June. I set up in the back room in the NW corner. I will be bringing a lot of parts and horns this year along with a nice Victor O, III with wood horn, and a nicely restored Victor VI with a mahogany horn.
