VICTOR V QUESTION

I have gotten possesion of a nice original Victor V. It is original and unrestored. The V is a later unit with a serial number 56427 B. It has a black flower horn on it. Here's the thing that is different. The horn has a slip in elbow and the turntable sits a little higher. It has a tapered platform that the turntable mounts on. Possibly similar to a schoolhouse machine. Does this sound right for this unit? Any and all help is welcome.

I'd sure like to see photos of your machine. The late Victor horn machines used an elbow that slips deeply into the back bracket. I'm having a difficult time visualizing your turntable and how it mounts so photos would help. Thanks, Jerry

Here are a couple pics of the horn elbow and bracket for those who asked. I can't remove the turntable as it is locked on good. It doesn't have the slots where the turntable drops down on it and just lifts up to remove. Maybe the center cap is screwed on to hold it???? I'll post more pics soon to give everyone a better idea. Yep, that's a late back bracket and elbow. Does the spindle have a slot in it? Is it too tight to unscrew? Jerry

Thanks Jerry. It is way too tight to unscrew. I put vice grips and a rag around the spindle and tried to loosen it both ways. I didn't want to risk breaking something so I thought I would ask the experts here.

If it's slotted it should unscrew. I'd try a heat gun or a hair dryer on high and then try unscrewing. Good luck, Jerry

Jerry (and others) Thanks for the tip. I included a picture of the Victor V as well as a close up of the turntable. I can't get a pic of how the turntable looks under it as I can't get the turntable off. I'm guessing the cap on top is threaded (my reason for asking about the school house version) but I can't get it to budge (without maybe doing damage). It's almost welded on after this long. So far no luck with the hair dryer. Any other ideas from anyone would be great. Thanks again.

Have you tried penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench, Kroil etc.)?

I don't see a slot in your photo. If there is no slot, I'm unfamiliar with removal of the turntable for that machine unless it just lifts straight up. On some Victors that had difficult turntable removal, I've removed the turntable along with the complete spindle shaft and pressed out the spindle. CAUTION! Be sure the motor has run down completely before doing this. Jerry

Please post a picture of the motor. Once the type of motor is diagnosed then the removal of the platter will be clear. I agree w Jerry that there is no appearance of a slot for a screw driver. The diameter of the nickel spindle and surrounding piece reminds me of a VV50 spindle, which should also be removable. Posting a picture of the motor is best at this point. John
