Automatic Piano for sale - Please look!

Post by Jerry B. »

A neighbor is sell the item shown in the photos. I have no expertise with such an item and don't know how to best help him. I was told that it worked until recently. Is anyone on the Forum interested in its purchase? I can get it to Union easily. An offer or suggestion of value would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jerry Blais

I don't know about this particular manufacturer, but suspect that with the large pinned drum system it is a real old-timer and has pretty substantial value. I couldn't find it in the index of Bower's Encyclopedia of Mechanical Music, which is kind of the bible on these kinds of things.

It's a nice machine from possibly as late as the early 1920's- quite a few of these were still being produced for rural taverns and businesses where there was no electricity.

Here's a video of a similar one playing -btw- the spinning roller in the middle is for a power transfer similar to the Higham amplifier.

The Mechanical Music Digest @ http://www.mmdigest.com/Home

Joyce Bright's site @ http://mmd.foxtail.com/Exchange/

Just a few sites to list a barrel piano but it will not be a easy sale. They tend not be at all musical and you can not (unless you lots of tune barrels for this specfic instrumnet) change the music.

Good luck!
