WTB - Climax record - 12"

Post by Kent in KC »

I've got a 10", but my turntable is 12", must have good label, title not important - any help appreciated.

I may be off base here...however, if you are referring to American "Climax" records. There were only a 7" & 10" size pressed.

You might be right. I have an outside horn Climax phonograph and assumed (hoped)that since it has a 12" turntable, maybe they pressed 12" records, but maybe not.

You have a later (1909-?) machine manufactured by Columbia, probably for a particular retailer(s) and the accompanying record line was also called Climax. These were double-disc records - also manufactured by Columbia. I'm not sure if they were made available in 12" size.

The earlier Climax discs alluded to were 1901-02 vintage and were pressed by the Globe Record Company for Columbia. These were 7" and 10"; all one-sided.

Yeah, I've got those early records (even one with the brass eyelet) and also a few of the 10" later double sided ones...just hoping for the 12". Don't know why, but I like having a matching record (including size if possible) on all my phonographs. Oh well, if they didn't make one, so be it.
