Did Anyone End Up With This?

Post by SonnyPhono »

I tried to pick this up as soon as I found it on Craigslist, but was too late. Hopefully someone here was lucky enough to snag it!!

Those are beautiful, I think my VV-IX in Mahogany would look great on the cabinet. Is this a actual "Victor Victrola"? It is a nice machine, probably no more than needing a good cleaning and mainspring work.

Looks to be a METEOR phono! Note decals & (I think) identical grilles (one of them is upside-down)....

Who cares about the Meteor machine. The Sonora (optional) record cabinet is to die for.... Too bad some tool (literally) put two big holes in the back. That said.....at least they were placed in the back.....

I agree! I guess I should have been more specific when starting this thread that the Sonora is what I was referring to. I do think the Meteor is different and wouldn't mind having it. But the Sonora is pretty tough to come by and for that price?! Hope someone here was fortunate enough to end up with it.

The Sonora record cabinet is the real piece here, but that Meteor cabinet is quite unusual.

Is that really supposed to be a Sonora record cabinet, or did someone convert a Sonora phonograph into a record cabinet? To me it looks like it started its life as an upright phonograph and was converted later on to maybe hold modern stereo equipment. Why else would it have that lid on top?

I believe the Sonora is the matching record cabinet for the Sonora Supreme. Very rare and expensive.

Definitely a record cabinet, it would have held two shelves of albums. The lid was to match the machine and the recessed area underneath was to hold catalogs, needles, record dusters Etc - all the items that would otherwise clutter the inside of the machine. At a later date someone drilled big holes in the back, probably for stereo equipment.
