Have I got an invention for you!!!

It's was originally called a volume knob but with great advances in technology (maybe even an Edison invention) it's now referred to as a volume 'level'.

One curious detail I would like to know:

Why did Charley's wife sit in the basement for a year?

(Sorry; that's my inner grammar nazi speaking)….

I see the sentence you are referring to has been changed today:

My grandfather gave my father a 1903 cylinder phonograph, which he in turn passed on to me. After it sat in my basement for a year, my wife brought it upstairs.

It originally read: "After sitting in the basement for a year..."

This is a great article, well written, informative and sorely needed. It's a much deserved tribute to Charley and his passion for Edison collecting.

Click on the musical note on the lower right corner of the screen, then click the speaker icon at the top of the resulting popup window. Instant mute.
