Edison Diamond "D" reproducer?

With that amount of weight, I would imagine that it would wear out blue amberols rather fast.

I believe this reproducer was used on the Amberola 80.
Often the weight is removed and missing.

That weight really must put some extra pressure on the stylus and silk thread connecting it to the diaphragm.
Were there any other changes other than the extra weight, made to this reproducer?
I'm thinking along the lines of changes made to the DD dance and Edisonic reproducers.

Are these said to cause excessive record wear because of the load on the stylus, and do they play at greater volume than a normal Diamond A/B/C?

Frow doesn't mention any changes other than the extra weight which is supposed to make it louder. The only one I have seen was on an Amberola 80 at an auction years ago. That particular one was nickel plated. I would certainly think that the extra weight would be harder on cylinders.

The D has a tiny spring hooked behind the diamond point; in the auction pics, you can see the cutout for the spring.
