nice record storage cabinet - pooley? - on craigslist - PA

Post by brianu »

this looks like a nice, but pricey, record cabinet with an ejecting system on craigslist in PA. I've never seen one this large before, the size of a book case.

anyone ever seen any like this? is that asking price in the right ballpark?

Considering it's located pretty near to where it was manufactured I'd wager this is a custom-made piece. I think it would be pretty large for a production catalog piece- would have been tricky to ship, and still would be which limits the saleability what ever the price.

I think that Eric is most likely correct in his opinion, but I’m hardly an informed source. :D

With a bit of work, I think that it would be an attractive addition to someone’s collection, and would certainly provide quite a bit of storage.

I cleaned up the description below, as the seller’s lack of punctuation and capitalization bugged me.

Rare Victrola phonograph record cabinet made by Pooley — $2,700 (Railroad, PA 17355)

This is a large record cabinet that holds 450 records each in its own wooden slot with a mechanism to slide the record out after you have selected the #. Made of mahogany, this cost $145.00 in 1911 when it was new made by the Pooley Furniture Co. in Philly. I have never seen another one this size!! The dimensions are 52½" wide, 20" deep and 61½" high. I thought I would give a chance to the place where it was made first. If I have no sale here, it will probably land on eBay for a lot more money.

I do wonder how he knows the original price- is there a Pooley catalog, or is it on that label?

Wow, That's a very interesting cabinet.

If I were 4000 miles closer I would consider it. His price seems way too high but perhaps if he does not sell it after some time he will get more reasonable.

that would definitely make sense.

would be nice to have considering all the records I have at the moment stored in crates, but unfortunately it's out of range both in price and size.

Maybe it sold, or was withdrawn. The links to CL are dead.
