Does anyone have recommendations on where to buy needles?

Post by marcapra »

I need to buy to some more phonograph needles. I have been buying Bryophonic needles, but don't see them on Ebay. Is Ebay a good place to buy needles? Has anyone bought these needles (see link)? I've heard that the very best needles come from England.

Many members here use needles made by Mike Child in the UK, they are nearly identical to the original Victor needles.

From an email he sent me a while back:

10,000 100 packs £125.00
7,000 70 packs £87.50
5,000 50 packs £75.00
3,000 30 packs £48.00
2,000 20 packs £40.00
1,000 10 packs £25.00
2-7 packs £2.70 each

Email: [email protected]

Phone: +44 1234 340829

He also sells them on eBay under the name "soundgen"

Shipping was £25 to Michigan for 10,000

I bought soft tone needles from this vendor located in Holland, and the needles are good quality:

I've bought needles direct from Martin Bryan, but that was some years ago. I believe he posts here as "martinola." If you need contact info, send me a PM.

Several dealers sell Bryophonic needles by mail or at shows. Ron Sitko seems to have about the best price, including quantity discounts.

I can second the praise for Mike Child's needles - I've used them for quite a while and they are fine.

That's not Martin Bryan! ;)

I'll add more kudos for Mike Child's needles. I've tried almost all of the new production ones out there (including Martin's) and his are by far the best and worth every cent.

Yep, Mike Child's needles are GREAT! Here is a close up picture of his needles, they have a nice smooth taper (unlike some that look like pencil points). They also have good tips, they are polished and rounded. :)

I bought needles (Medium) from eBay "johnnybighit" Chamberlain brand.
I don't know where they originate from. They look like the old style needles and sound good to me.
I also bought the Gettysburg Antique Phono needles.
It is amazing how different the needles sound. The Chamberlin needles seem to be quieter and will play really bad looking records pretty well.
I am still learning about needles and such, even though I have collected records and machines since I was in elementary school.
