Car Show find

Post by Damfino59 »

I know others here go to car swap meets. I recently attended the Iola Car Show in Iola Wisconsin and came home with this Silvertone deluxe portable plus 22 Hit Of the Week records. Aside from a missing reproducer and broken spring $20 was a good deal.

The machine looks to be in good shape aside from the aforementioned problems. No rust or tears visible in your pic. I have seen the repros a few times on eBay. How good are you with springs?

Looks like it will be a nice little machine!

The best bargains often turn up in the places where you would least expect to find them.

I once bought a green HMV102 portable for £30 at an autojumble (which is what we call a car swap meet in the UK) and an HMV101 also in green for £15 from a china stall at an antiques fair.

Good hunting!

Very nice~ ! I have one - I love it! It's so loud for a portable. I had to crack open the spring barrel and drill a new catch in the coil so it would function again. I have gasket issues with the Reproducing head. But I could send pics if you like. Mine was 20$ as well.... Bottom was missing.I found a suitable replacement when this faux leather bench from a 1930's dressing table surfaced. They're the exact same size. :P

Nice! I think Prime Mfg built these for Sears and they feature their long tin internal horn, the Silvertone Deluxe machines do have extra details like the nickle plate grilles. Excellent find.

Nice, but what are those things on the turntable? They look like warped records.

First I want to say how easy it was to attach the photo! Thanks to the TMF administrators.

I've done spring work in the past. Big stuff I usually send out. This being a small spring motor I probably will tackle it.

The case is filthy and the covering is still intact with a small hole on the top. Elegant decay I would say!

The Hit Of the Week records are currently intermixed with a big pile of diamond discs, but I don't think they will ever be completely flat ever again!

Unfortunately I have bigger projects ahead of it. But it gives me another reproducer to look for at Union next year!
