VERY probably this matched a set of furniture, or the fittings of a room - I can picture it in the mansion of some scandinavian beer baron

You may want to contact SAS Auctions in the UK, since you live there. They deal a lot in Phonographs and I think they also do appraisals..??. They will certainly know the UK market.

Personally I wouldn't use SAS for valuations. They have not got the Getty stuff right and several of their auctions have contained machines that were heavily "restored" and yet this wasn't pointed out. Thomas Plant's appearance in a UK TV program recently where he over-valued a Columbia cabinet machine (a basic model at that) hasn't helped its credibility either! The problem is, if it isn't boring HMV or Edison, not many auctioneers or collectors will look twice at it. That lack of interest translates into the lazy valuations.

Cabinet machines are NOT valued by UK collectors, irrespective of the quality, size or merits of the design. Most UK auctioneers will dismiss it, sadly.

If you want a TRUE appraisal I would use Auction Team Brekker which understands, appreciates and values all continental models, irrespective of the type, especially something as unusual as this machine.

I think this may be more easily valued as a piece of decorative furniture than as a phonograph
