Adapter to play lateral records:

This is the elbow that you need. You then meed to find an ordinary style soundbox.

Hi and thank you all !

You basically answered to all my questions (even the one I had in mind). I am quite excited to receive it.

There is this night and day Pathé for bidding at a reasonable price for the moment: http://www.ebay.fr/itm/ANCIEN-PHONOGRAP ... K:MEWAX:IT

However it seems, he only ship to France.

Cheers,

Tiwi

Yes, I just bought it! The listing says "Ships to: Worldwide" so we'll have to see if it was a mistake or not. I'm hoping he will send it and unlike ALL other French eBay purchases I've made where items were shipped, I'm hoping it arrives in one piece, well packed and secure! If it does, I will send him a personal reward!

Hi Steve, this is great! Let me know if you you receive it well.

Hi Sidewinder,

thanks for your link. Can't I use the same reproducer with this elbow to read lateral discs?

Cheers !

Hello guys,

Here is finally a video of the Pathéphone I made with the soundbox tweak so it can read the 78rpm. We can hear the sound slowing down a bit. It does really not mean to read longer than 2 and half minutes songs but this is still good.

Enjoy !

Kitty objected to the slow-down! You should be able to give the crank a few turns while the record is playing, to keep the speed steady.

Hi Edisone,

I know...I tried this in several videos before and believe me the change was even more noticeable. It slows down after the first 10 seconds, then after 2 minutes. When I crank with few turns, you can hear the change very clearly.

Does it happen often to gramophones ? Do we often need to make few turns in the middle of the song ? Any solution is welcome ! I already posted a topic here:

Kiwi, it could be that after you play it awhile, winding it all the way then letting it run down over and over will solve the problem.

The recording sounds very nice by the way. The slowdown is barely noticeable and the kitty sure seems to enjoy it.

Here's a picture of some of the Pathé discs, centre start discs in case you are interested.

Congratulations on your purchase!. It looks to be in a very presentable condition.
My only concern is that, if you are planning to collect good quality 78s, that the soundbox you are using is an Indian made so-called "HMV" (nothing of the sort) made to accompany "Crapophones" IE fakes.
These soundboxes are cheaply made and their poor construction causes excess wear on records.
You can buy many different original soundboxes relatively cheaply on Ebay, and with a professional rebuild you will get far better reproduction and, possibly more importantly, much less wear to recordings.

Hello and thanks for your feedbacks !

Any recommendation for a soundbox ? I actually used the lightest I could find since I knew the engine is quite small and I thought it would not support heavy soundbox (the disc slowing down).

Cheers !
