For the past twenty-five years I've enjoyed a love affair with old phonographs of all types, but knew that an expensive Victor VI, Edison Opera, or Class M would not be in the cards for me.
Eight years ago, when my oldest daughter became seriously ill, extended hospital stays, traveling for medical care, and multiple specialists drained our savings and then some. At that time I sold most of my phonograph collection, saying goodbye to some grand machines. Fast forward eight years, my oldest daughter now 21 years old, still struggles mightily with her health.
This year my wife of 22 years was diagnosed with a tumor in the center of her brain that required 5 hours of very delicate neurosurgery, followed by months of recovery. Thank God that as of today, my wife is fully recovered and doing well.
Although my oldest daughter is still ill and continues to struggle with her health, we are truly grateful to God and feel extremely Blessed.
In May, I found an Opera one town away from me and posted pictures of it here. Although I picked it up for a great price, I just could not afford to keep it at that time.
In late June, near the end of what had been a very trying school year, my older brother passed away suddenly and completely unexpectedly. He did not drink, smoke, and was not overweight. At 63, his passing was at far too young an age. I am still grieving daily over his loss. I've prayed to him and for him everyday since his death.
A week after his passing, I was sitting at the computer just before going to bed. I jokingly said out loud, "Charlie I know your watching from heaven, please find me something good." I clicked onto a popular website and found this!!!!!
This 1890-1893 Class M is totally unrestored with a beautiful cabinet and Standard Speaker.
Some of the photos show the machine prior to getting a gentle cleaning. I think the dirt that was on the machine when I got it was from 1890.
