Hi, My gramophone is playing 78rpm only in "fast". It's time to replace the spring? The spring needs to play both sides of the disc? (my HMV gramophone is 102, and this spring is the correct to replace? (25mm) x 0.55mm x 14ft (4,250 mm)) My only fear is that I leave the way it is, and the future does not find another chance to buy a new spring.
Thank you for all!

. Have you cleaned and re-lubricated the motor (including cleaning and re-greasing the spring)?
. Have you checked for wear in any of the bearings and gears?
. Have you made any adjustments on the governor?

Re: Help with SPRINGS.
a dab of oil on the governor bearings on a dry motor immediately gives the machine a little more power. don't forget to oil the felt pads as well. all in all, just get a can of 3 in 1 and lube all bearings.
but I would definitely rebuild the motor just so it runs in fresh grease. the spring might just be stuck with dried up grease.
could you post a picture of that motor so we can have a look?

Not many portables with single spring motors will play both sides of a record without rewinding.dilhermandodidi wrote:Hi, My gramophone is playing 78rpm only in "fast". If there is an intermittent bumping noise from the motor during playback, this is a sign that the graphited grease originally used by HMV has hardened and needs to be removed and replaced. Failure to do this may eventually result in a broken spring.

Yes, I did, so I think it's strange 78rpm plays in fast. I removed the spring from the barrel, I grease (transparent / yellow) cleaned every engine and put grease in places that indicate the manual lubrication. I bought this, but if you do not find it necessary, I can cancel:http://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB- ... 0x4000-_JMLucius1958 wrote:Some questions may be in order:dilhermandodidi wrote:Hi, My gramophone is playing 78rpm only in "fast". Lubed, I removed the barrel and replaced it with grease. I can not take a picture now, but will soon post.

Is lubricated (grease removed and placed in the barrel) but is working at most Fast. I've used the strobe and I think the problem should be the spring.epigramophone wrote:Not many portables with single spring motors will play both sides of a record without rewinding.dilhermandodidi wrote:Hi, My gramophone is playing 78rpm only in "fast". If you have removed, cleaned, and re-greased the spring, then the problem should lie with the governor. Make sure with all the adjustments and disassembly/reassembly that all is in order with the governor.

Re: Help with SPRINGS.
I agree with Matt: if you have regreased and lubricated the motor, you should try adjusting the governor. Moving it back towards the bearing on the disc side should give it more room to get up to speed.
Sometimes, though, the governor springs may have weakened, or may have been replaced with something of a lighter gauge, so that they move out too easily. (Just a thought; I don't know whether anyone else had tinkered with the machine before you got it).
