I called eBay, reported every nuance of the scam, including providing proof that the seller could not possibly own the item, and they told me they could do nothing until I actually lost the money (about $10k). Thanks, eBay!
I've had the same experience with eBay. They then kept pestering me for Customer Service Team feedback responses via a questionnaire!
I told them what I thought and then got ANOTHER questionnaire asking me if I would "recommend eBay to a friend". NO, was my answer.
Aah Ebay! Thought I'd share one of my experiences too. I'm not a regular dealer there, just once in a while to dispose of something extra or unwanted that the local market doesn't want. I offered a bunch of phonograph parts, including some early wind up phonograph parts, and also some later stereo magnetic pick ups, sixties and seventies vintage (Empire, Shure and Pioneer). I tested each cartridge, both for impedance and by actually playing it. Upon selling, one of the buyers complained about a channel being out. I offered a refund on return. When I got it back, I suspected they had traded their bad one for my good one. So, since I had more, I carefully scratched a small character on the next group of six. They all sold and another one complained of a weak channel on one side. I offered a refund on return and when it came back, indeed one channel had low output. However, I could not find my little star that I had scratched on each one. I complained to Ebay and they pretty much told me there was nothing they could do, that it would be up to me to discuss it with the buyer. Is that "Seller beware"? For that reason and for others, I think Ebay has slowly switched over to favoring and protecting the Buyer.
There is no question that is the policy.. A buyer has to do something very obviously crooked to get their attention. I resold the razor the fellow told me was in such " not as described" shape and the next buyer thought it was fine. Once I had a lady that I accidently missed a very odd address on that had a fifth line of numbers, something I had never run into before. Her package ended up coming back and I resent it.. She raised all sorts of nasty heck over it.. When I checked her previous purchases though an off ebay site, (the name of which I can't recall), she had over 80 something negatives given to people. When I pointed it out to ebay they could have cared less and it took a year to get one simple mix up off my 100% satisfied rating..
