You are right about the low prices of Edison disc machines in the UK, which I have always attributed to the difficulty in obtaining really good discs. Epigramophone, I bought one in an UK auction one year ago for not much more than the price this ad is showing. My guess for the low price I paid is that nobody cares about US machines in Europe (and vice-versa). Keep you eyes open, I am sure there are more of those within your reach.
Some of my collector friends who are serious "Ediphiles" combine holidays in the USA with buying opportunities at fairs.
