Epigramophone, I bought one in an UK auction one year ago for not much more than the price this ad is showing. My guess for the low price I paid is that nobody cares about US machines in Europe (and vice-versa). Keep you eyes open, I am sure there are more of those within your reach.
You are right about the low prices of Edison disc machines in the UK, which I have always attributed to the difficulty in obtaining really good discs. By the time DD's went on general sale over here the lateral cut "78" had totally dominated the market, and the Edison range never made much impact.

Some of my collector friends who are serious "Ediphiles" combine holidays in the USA with buying opportunities at fairs.

Seller will do $175 if picked up in person.
Some veneer missing and a water ring from a vase on the lid.
Any thoughts about it being a good buy with those issues????

Seems like that is probably reasonable given it isn't that common of a machine. I guess you have to be up for the project.

It has a BIN of $175 now.
I didn't know you could turn the Edison reproducer to play lateral records

$175 for a Schubert is an amazing deal. You can get it shipped to you via uship.com. My guess is it would cost $3-400 to get it to most parts of the country. These usually go for $600-900.
