Victor Soundboxes

Post by howardpgh »

Did Victor make a smaller diameter soundbox than the Exhibition?
I have one of the felt lined black boxes, with a silver printed His Masters Voice on the lid, that a reproducer was sold in. The Exhibition is actually too big to fit. The nickel part fits, but the coin edge of the back half does not.

My Victor "R" came with an Exhibition "Jr." soundbox that is slightly smaller.

Gramophone78, I think your picture of the Concert (#10) Soundbox has answered my question. The Concert appears smaller than the Exhibition.

Maybe. However, the #10 box has no HMV on the lid. Just black (see pic). There is also a box that has (in script) "His Master's Voice" on the lid. These are for the UK market. The cases with the HMV logo in the lid (silver or gold) are for the North American market. Gold for a gold finished reproducer and silver for a nickel finished reproducer.

Hope this helps

The box I have is not as fancy as that. It is cardboard with black grained paper covering and a silver picture of the Victor dog logo on the removable lid.
Gramophone78 your box looks fancy enough for a $500 watch!

Well I wish I had a $500 watch... . Here is a box like you describe but for an Exhibition. The size of the box changed a few times over the years. However, in your case....it could be for a nickel concert reproducer.

That's the exact box that came with my XI (1917) and Exhibition!
