Great pic. This is the first time I have seen a period photo showing the cast Victor record holder. There are two on each upper ledge. I'm surprised they displayed them in such an obscure way. Also shows they held (in this case) a 10" record. As many of us know......there are lots of repro's on the market today. The 18" Nipper's look familier... .

Nope, it's a Victor "Gothic" Period Model.

I held off putting this pic up as a new topic, since it's not as interesting to see as that store window had been. This pic is of E. F. Droop's store in downtown Washington DC, this would have been at 13th & G Streets NW, only a few blocks from the White House. At the time, Droop's was one of several Victor dealers in the neighborhood, this being the main shopping district of the city back then. They seemed to carry the higher-end line of musical merchandise, including Steinway pianos as noted here, and in later years the pricey Capehart radio-phonos. I'd say in this case, they got a train car load of upright Victolas, all off-loaded onto the sidewalk. Can't quite tell if they are headed into the store crated, being un-crated on the sidewalk and then hauled in, or awaiting delivery as crated instruments. The shiny commercial truck parked there would seem to indicate crated delivery; then the customer had the honor of un-crating the machine at home, as we have seen in surviving documents in many Victrolas of this time, but this is all conjecture on my part. This is a view we seldom see---the arrival of fresh, new instruments from Camden NJ, on the way to appreciative homes across the city.....
