Spam / hacked mail address from wwindups@aol.com

Post by US PHONO »

I think wwindups mail account has been hacked / or someone is sending spam using this address, as I received an email with a suspicious looking link. Looks like the mail was sent to the complete contact list and the link could be one of those that has a malicious code that will do damage to your data or steal your data?

Anyone have any more info?

Have you asked wwindups@aol.com if they sent it ? That would seem a sensible thing to do

Dear Soundgen, yes, but ...if the mailbox was hacked I didn't think it much use. Also as it was past midnight I could not give the Smiths a call, and just wanted others to be cautious. I've attached the email so you see what it looked like. / .pe is Peru.

I also received the "referral link" email on two different email addresses. Be careful out there people...

It does indeed look suspicious, but normally the poison is in the link in these situations. The bad guys might be "spoofing" his address in the From area, but his email address would still work normally for him. (Albeit if it is a hack he'd be well advised to shut it down and open a new one.)

The e-mail account has been hacked. Don't click the link, or your e-mail account will be the next one that's hacked. Links that end with .php are invariably bad news.

Of course, don't treat the link to Vulcan records as dangerous because it ends with .php
