3 Spring Victrola Motor in a VV-XVI

Just brought home my very first VV-XVI (c.1915) today. Looked under the hood fully expecting to see a 4 spring motor but there were only 3 single spring barrels. Can't recall ever seeing a 3 spring Victrola motor before.

Were these 3 spring motors common? Was this a standard motor for the VV-XVI? For what time period?

Any and all info about this would be greatly appreciated!

Yep - all the VTLAs and Victrola XVIs had 3-spring motors of various designs up until early 1917.

Along with what George wrote......I have the same motor (three separate spring barrels) in a late Victor 5.

Cliff, this motor was used in the V-V XVI and the V-V XIV from around 1913-1917. After 1917, the 4 spring motors were used.

This looks to be the same motor that was in a VV-XVIII that I rehabilitated earlier this year. A forum member had the correct motor for my machine. The diagram is on the motor board in the pic below from the XVIII. I have an extra mahogany motor board if you need one. Let me know.

Thanks for all the info! This motor seems to work great, just some 'chunking' as the motor unwinds, I'll clean and regrease the springs soon. I like the hand carving on this one, significantly more than the similar VV-111 cabinet.

Also has a gold Exhibition reproducer.
