This is probably one of the nicer Craigslist finds we’ve seen in a while (and definitely some of the best pictures I’ve seen on Craigslist. At $165, I imagine that it will probably sell quickly.

1920 ORIGINAL Victrola. FULLY FUNCTIONAL, original, not restored, not rebuilt, very solid condition. Was always a project to restore, just never did. Time to let someone else do it. Very nice ORIGINAL condition. From Mom's estate, been in family since 1946, but never used for anything but accent piece. ORIGINAL finish, not cracked, not spiderwebbed. 'Pathé' decal on rear of interior behind turntable shows brand and historical reference. Cone paper is torn but replacements are available from restoration shops for $28-40 on Internet. An unusual antique with original decals and all pieces there for your use. Shelves in lower storage area need to be reattached, vertical supports are there. Emial for details or further info. I'm always amazed at how reasonable the cost of lot of machines across the pond seem to be. Looks like a nice machine that would only take a small amount of work to get it in perfect order again.

Me too Richard! A black 102 portable I was bidding on the other day went for $370. I'm sure if one of these turned up over here the price would be more like $1000.
$165 is obviously cheap, but even at twice the price I'd consider it a bargain.

Over here $165 will today buy you any one of the following:

HMV Model 1 Hornless in average rusty condition (if you're lucky)
HMV 103 Table model in oak at "country house sale" or small sale room, possibly
2 no. HMV black 101 portables in very average condition at a fair like NVCF
A tatty Decca No. 2 maybe?


Any Columbia "equivalents" to the above BUT you cannot but ANY Pathé machine over here for that price of any description, let alone an Actuelle!

BTW, Shane, if you want an ordinary 102, let me know and I'll look out for you. I saw dozens yesterday at NVCF and none of them over £75 ($100). Whatever you do, don't pay silly money for one - they are SO common it's only a matter of time before one turns up at a sensible price. Ebay is stupendously ridiculous where HMV portable prices are concerned. Avoid it like Swine Flu.
