A great find in NW Indiana

To some finding a box of 78's for sale may be a common thing. But I complain that Northwest Indiana antique stores rarely have older 78's, and if they do, they are an outrageous price for a copy of Dinah Shores 1950's hit, it has been next to impossible to find a box of records in this area, the last time I picked up a box of records was when I was 20, back in the early to mid-nineties.

I was at a local antique store, walked through the aisles and booths, and found a box of 78's for 50.00. There are about 20 (12" 78's; Harry Lauder etc.). There are more than 50 78's in the box (early Victor, Bat wings and some scrolls, not to mention some Electric Brunswicks and Cameo). My feelings were to pass on it, but I figured that $50.00, can't go wrong, get to the counter and they sold them to me at 10% off, with tax costing less than 50.00; I figure I paid less than a $ 1.00 each, so not bad for some early records, now this weekends project is to clean, sleeve and listen to some more great music.

Thats my point great deals can still be found, you just never know when and where, sometimes that just going and finding it is a thrill, its the hunt.

I got lucky last week in an antique store. There were albums of records all good titles. They were $1.00 each, and there were 66 of them. I bought them all. The best records of the whole bunch was My Cousin Caruso by Billy Murray, lots of Hosier Hot Shots, and Tennessee Ernie Ford(Sixteen Tons and Mule Train). There are good deals still out there.

This summer our Habitat For Humanity thrift store received a donation of some 600 78s and I got busy looking. I only picked about 25 records; 22 classical, 2 snappy Paul Whitman's, and the best was Brainstorm by Coon-Sanders.

That was the most records I have picked through in years. I had higher hopes, but love all of what was found.
