If you want to have good luck...

Post by Jerry B. »

If you want to have good luck at an antique sale, go with your arm in a sling. When you shouldn't lift anything heavier than a Vogue record, you will find some great heavy machines. My friend, Stan, and I attended the Portland, Oregon Expo sale yesterday. We both had good luck. Stan was in good health and bought some very nice needle tins, vintage phonograph photos, and phono post cards. I had rotator cuff surgery about four weeks ago and I'll be in my sling for a few more weeks. I was told not to lift anything. So, of course, I bought nice big things.

I had a great day. I bought great stuff and Stan and DeeDee did all the lifting! The VV-IX is still in the back of the truck. If you are near Albany, Oregon...

To be fair, Stan actually found the 6 but it was more of a project than he wanted. I like projects and was thankful for the opportunity. Thanks Stan!

I thought the ID tag is very interesting. It reads "VN0 6". I suspect that means Victor Number six.

I did buy some nice small things including a Lewis & Clark napkin ring cylinder. Unfortunately, it was cracked.

I bought this two minute Model B Standard and it also came with an original 14" horn. The machine is very clean but the reproducer is not correct.

DeeDee brought in the Standard and Vic VI. When I asked about the VV-IX, I got that sideways look that said "don't even think about it!"

Good luck with your recovery, Jerry. I had shoulder surgery 4 weeks ago, but they did not find the two tears they were expecting - just bruising and scar tissue, so I got off much lighter than I expected. Even so, will be working on recovery for a while yet. Fortunately, I brought my 1A home from Stantons a week before ( I scheduled surgery around the September auction). BTW: my wife has been doing all the heavy lifting here for the last month, bless her.

Nice finds Jerry. The Vic 6 doesn't look too big of a project, at least not from that angle. The Standard looks to be in great shape, the VV-IX may need a bit more love.
Best wishes for a quick recovery.

I'm quietly jealous of that VI... the Standard looks very nice indeed, and i grew-up with an IX just like that, maybe not quite as battle-scarred...

Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery ! :)

Wow Jerry! Was this a general antique expo or a phonograph show? You found some good stuff, but really extraordinary if it was a general antique show. My wife and I attended an antique show today and all I found was a Victrola VI with a bad dent in the tone arm for $275. It's still there...

Jerry,
Great haul!
I hope your recovery is speedy and painless.
Does this mean that Dee Dee will have to dust the ashtray you purchased for her until you're out of the sling?
Best regards,
Gene

It's a general antiques sale that's held three times a year. I generally something nice but this sale was extra good. Jerry
