Some jerk put on about 2 pages of magazine adds at 24.95 each today. I sent him a dirty email. I wish everyone on the board would do the same.

He actually has quite a large stock of these, though as you implied, the prices are a bit high and IMHO I agree. You can take some comfort in that checking his "sold" listings he has sold virtually nothing, at least recently.

Re: Phonograph adds
So basically you're pissed because you have to scroll thru two pages of listings?
BTw..He has all the right in the world to sell his ads and charge whatever he likes.
Get over it.

Re: Phonograph adds
To begin with "sold" listings do not reflect anything other than perhaps a member's ability to work around eBay's ridiculous commission system. And perhaps much of his business comes from repeat customers, again off-eBay.
I also agree with Dave that he has the right to ask whatever he wants for his offerings. Too many people think that everybody does this as a hobby, that the time, effort, creativity and other monetary expenses of a seller are to be ignored.
And, if I wanted one of those Victrola ads, for instance, I'd be glad to pay what he's asking. Think of it as a "convenience fee".

Obviously you have a problem that I don't share - deal with it yourself.

Re: Phonograph adds
Not to be picky here but.......unless you are referring to "multiplication" (add).....the thread heading should be "Phonograph Ads". "Ad" is the abbreviation for advertising.....

Not to be picky here, but plurals don't use apostrophes, so it should actually just be "Ads"...gramophone78 wrote:Not to be picky here but.......unless you are referring to "multiplication" (add).....the thread heading should be "Phonograph Ad's". "Ad" is the abbreviation for advertising.....![]()

Re: Phonograph adds
I didn't think I would get hammered on this. I would not pay 25.00 for a page out of a 1930 magazine. I wouldn't pay that for the entire magazine. And I bet no one else will ether. But you guys are right, I got pissed because of the multiple pages of listings, and that's that. If you know me, then you know I say things I should just keep to myself.

Re: Phonograph adds
Ronnie,
Just be opened minded. YOU wouldn't pay that kind of money for an entire magazine, but then again, he's not looking for you. He's looking for the guy with one Victrola, who just wants something to go along with his pride and joy. And that guy isn't going to visit antique shops, phonograph shows, etc., just to find a similar advertisement page for 5 bucks.
I get nasty emails all the time criticizing me for my "overpriced" stuff. It's not fun to be on the receiving end of such vitriol. But then you get an email from somebody who says this is his life's dream, he buys it, and he ends up thanking you for allowing him the privilege of purchasing such a beautiful antique.
As they say, one man's trash is another's treasure.
