Here is my late Graphophone BF Peerless equipped with 2/4 minute gearing. When I acquired this machine and parts the crane, original 2 minute gearing and gear cover, as well as the Lyric #15 reproducer and recorder were in a dusty old cardboard box. Also present were remnants of the original stitched belt. I think it is safe to assume that these parts are original to the machine given the sheer oddity of finding them in the first place! The Tea Tray Co. horn present on this machine was one I have had lying around and most recently placed on a Standard that I put up for sale to clear some room. The guy failed to provide payment so the horn stayed with me and I soon realized that it would make a great companion to the BF.
I wont state the obvious regarding cosmetic details so I will continue with mechanical features but I can certainly provide additional pictures upon request. The 2/4 minute gearing functions well in conjunction with the fairly quiet motor. This machine includes a #12 and #15 reproducer, the latter retaining its original box with explicit instructions to only use on Indestructible records. This reproducer is the early iteration as the stylus has a diameter fit only to play 2 minute records. Also included is a lyric recorder with a nice stylus and original box.
Both the serial number and "Columbia Graphophone" decal point to the machine being late-production but there are also a few other details to note regarding the set-up of the machine. The crank and speed control came with the machine when I acquired it and, like the accompanying gearing and cover, I would speculate that these parts, which are found on the cheaper B-series models, are on this particular machine because of when it was made. The 2/4 minute gearing became available in 1909 and I believe that the production of the BF stopped in 1910, so it may be that this machine comes from the tail-end of the production run or the dealer that installed the gearing ( and let the owner take home the original set) switched out some parts?
The crane is a Tea Tray design and there is a visible spot on the case where it was positioned years ago.
My asking price for the machine is $1650.00 however potential trades are not out of the question and I am open to other offers as well.
