The machine is a Viva Tonal 710. The motor seems strong and is quiet but every now and then during playback it will very briefly speed up or slow down. I have never worked on a Columbia. Any ideas?

It sounds as though the spring is unwinding erratically. Has it been been removed and cleaned? If not, then I think you'll find that this is the problem.

Can I swap a motor from a Grafonola into this one?

I'm not super familiar with grafonola motors, but I would assume that most would not work out right. Better off re-greasing the springs.

Only if it's an identical motor, or the mounting holes and winding handle hole won't be in the same positions.jimmantwo wrote:Can I swap a motor from a Grafonola into this one?
