Victor books

Post by Tpapp54321 »

I recently decided to get a book on Victor victrolas (I already have on that's ok on Edison phonographs) but what book should I get. I have only been collecting for 2 years so I need one that explains a decent amount, also I have heard to get "Look for the dog" but I noticed that there are different ones which one would be best for me?

I would start with "Look for the Dog", it gives a nice overview and a decent amount of information and pictures on every model. There is also the "Victor Data Book", which has a lot of detail information, but is not really a replacement but rather complements the other. If you want only one book, then "Look for the Dog" is probably the better choice I think.

You also may find http://www.victor-victrola.com handy when you don't a book with you.

yes, that is the latest edition. It has more text than the previous editions, but the layout of the dates of production on each model is a little awkward in my opinion. Any edition is well worth getting.

I agree with Retro.

The newer version has color photos of actual machines. Earlier versions have black and white images taken from original catalogues, etc.

The newest version of LOOK FOR THE DOG has the best pictures, but there's different and interesting information in each of the editions.
