Red Wing 1910 recording on Edison & Indestructible

Which 1910 recording do you like better?

Although I quite like the xylophone solo in the Indestructible recording, I still like the Edison recording better.
I have both the 4 minute wax & blue amberol cylinders of this, and my wax copy sounds just as loud & clear as my blue Amberol.
At the other end of the scale, I think this earlier recording from Feb 11, 1908 by Ernest Pike is my least favourite.

Have you ever heard this on the late white label DD? Its the best song in my collection. Sounds like Paul Revere and the Raiders when it first begins.

What number and what artist(s)? Also what's on the other side of the disc? Paul Revere and the raiders?

Thank you for posting those recordings. Red Wing has a special significance for me ever since my grandfather died in 1994. At the preparations for the funeral, the minister who visited the family was collecting information about my grandfather, including asking if he had a favorite song. One of my uncles responded "Red Wing", and we thought no more about it till the day of the funeral service, when the minister, after giving the eulogy, picked up a guitar and sang a very nice rendition of the song. We were all quite touched.

I can keep this post relevant to the forum by mentioning that I recently inherited my grandfather's Edison "Home" phonograph from my dad, including a couple hundred cylinders. The records are in storage right now, but I may go over there tomorrow to see if there is a copy of Red Wing. It hadn't occurred to me that there might be until I saw your post.

Oh, also, of the two versions you posted, I think I like the band version a little better.

Red Wing is probably my favorite song. I have multiple copies of it and know all the words by heart. I think its because it was one of the first cylinders I ever heard many years ago on an Amberola 30. I think your Grandfather would be proud.

Very nice story Bob. In your Grandpas cylinders, 200 of them, it's fairly likely you will find a copy of Red Wing. It was very popular. If you don't find one, it would also be an easy one to pick up at a reasonable price.
