Aba Daba Du Honeymoon

Post by Phonofreak »

I was watching the movie 2 Week s With Love, 1950, starring Ricardo Montelban(spelling) & Jane Powell. There was a song that caught my attention, Aba Daba Du Honeymoon. I tried to find information about the song. It was written in 1914, and sung by Collins Harlan. Does anyone know if it was recorded on 78, DD, or cylinder? Also, the catalog number. If anyone has this song, please post it with the original recording instead of the jazzy version in the movie.

I have Collins & Harlan doing that on a Columbia disc.

Not sure where it is though. My 78 records are in a frightful mess.

That song was very popular and I am reasonably sure it appeared on all three formats. I know for certain that I have a clean copy on Blue Amberol somewhere, but it would take a lot of searching to find it.

"Aba Daba Honeymoon" was written by Arthur Fields (he of many, many recordings) and Walter Donovan in 1914.

Victor recorded the song twice in 1914: mx. B-15070 by Collins & Harlan on 16 July 1914, three takes, take 2 on Victor 17620. Arthur Fields recorded an unissued test on 12 August 1914.

Columbia seems to have recorded the song only once: mx. 39515, also by Collins & Harlan, 31 July 1914, three takes, take 2 on Columbia A.1600.

Messrs. Collins & Harlan cut the song yet again, probably around the same time, for Rex/Imperial 5163.

Thank you so much for all the input. And thanks for posting the video. Now to put an add in the Yankee Trader.
