Here's a link that tells some history about them and a picture of the records, record boxes, and a Edison Chinese catalog.

Appreciate the response. That was the first place I checked and didn't find much.

A number of the Edison Chinese records were pirated by International Indestructible Phonograph of Liverpool, listed in the 6xxx range. They aren't that easy to come by, so I guess sales weren't huge. I have one, sadly cracked.

Didn't you ask for information on Japanese cylinders (not Chinese ... as all replies are on Chinese cylinders)? ;-)

I have not seen photos or read about any cylinder record with either Japanese content or made for the market in Japan or even by a Japanese company. But I was told from a collector friend that many years ago he has seen in a book or magazine a photo of a cylinder record box from Japan. He just recalls that it had a picture of an Edison Standard suitcase model on it, but that's all the information he has.

So, is there anybody out there who owns this box or at least has a photo of it? I would be certainly interested to know how it looks too.

There are a bunch of Edison Japanese Cylinders sung by a Japanese singer named Sokichi Kudzuoka (葛岡宗吉), recorded in Osaka in 1902. The catalog numbers for these cylinders starts with 12813 and ends at 12825. Cylinders number 12817 and 12825 can be found on the Cylinders Preservation and Digitization Project at UCSB. Here are the links.

I know the only one collector (a Japanese collector) who owned the entire bunch of these 1902 Edison Japanese cylinders, but he lost most of his collection in a fire last year and I believe these cylinders were also destroyed by that fire...:-( There are other handful copies of these cylinders in various institutions in the U.S. and in Japan.

Okay, so was the question if there are any cylinders in Japanese language or if there are any cylinders made for the Japanese market with a special box design etc.???
