Thank you for these, they are fascinating. I'd love to hear a DR7 in the flesh.

I always promised myself a rainy day job of finding all the EMG+Expert references in The Gramophone, but other jobs are higher up the list unfortunately. In the context of the original magazines, these adverts for acoustic machines in 1940 seem to be archaic! I wonder what most readers thought at the time?

Are you scanning from photo copies? Some of the photos in the originals are surprisingly good (see attached).

Cheers,
David.

Hello David,

Yes, all these uploads have come from photocopies and I apologise for the sometimes inferior quality. I do have better originals of some of the files but the present upload came from one source, thus it was more convenient to post as a batch. Hopefully, the information is legible for posterity. It is very important I feel not to lose rare information.

Regarding the DR7, you may be interested to hear the Monty Sunshine recording of "Old Rugged Cross" via the link below. I am never quite sure exactly what the model number of my machine actually is but many of the amps/speakers were similar and all gave a superb performance both for the time and indeed even today. I hope you will agree and would be interested in your opinion !

Enjoy !

Wow, yet more treasures in your room!

However, the most exciting thing for me was when I noticed the speaker was made by Whiteleys in Mansfield. My uncle worked there, and not that long ago.

Their speakers can be found in all kinds of equipment from the 1930s. It makes me wonder how different, if at all, the models destined for EMG equipment were from the ones found in radios, radiograms, and extension speakers.

Those Pye / Nixa vinyl 78s sound wonderful. Your machine is doing very well with it. What is the pick-up on your unit?

Many thanks for sharing. Please don't appologise - I agree completely that it's important to preserve this information, from whatever source we have available. Sadly The Internet Archive doesn't crawl and preserve the TMF too deeply, though it's possible to go there and ask for a missing page to be saved. Just uploading something to a forum is no guarantee that it will be around next month, never mind next decade.

David.
